Born and raised in Connecticut, I spent summers in North Truro on the Cape and moved to San Diego 38 years ago to escape winter. Though visiting Martha’s Vineyard sporadically over the past 20 years, it wasn’t until I began living here 6 months of the year and extensively exploring the island, that I discovered I had fallen in love with the magical quality of light, color and texture of the landscape. Like so many before me, I can’t imagine a life of not being here. I am compelled to interpret the island like no other place I’ve been. Consequently, I was ecstatic to have an opportunity to get to know Farm Neck.
Since I didn’t know the game of golf at all, I first followed players around to see the course as a golfer would. I chose to walk the course early in the morning and at the end of day – in all weather. I love how the surrounding landscape, textures and colors enhance the beauty of the course – I hope I have done it justice.
Currently my tool of choice for making art is my iPhone. All my work begins with a photo taken with the iPhone, edited with apps and then, by blending the many layers of textures and colors, I get to my final image. It’s a new genre of art called iPhoneography. If anyone had told me five years ago I would be working this way, I would not have believed them.
