Brigitte Carnochan and her husband first came to Martha's Vineyard in 1980. Within three years, they were building a house on Oyster Pond and have spent increasingly longer periods of time on the Island ever since. After earlier careers as a high school and university English teacher and a university administrator, Brigitte turned her passion for photography into a full-time career in 1996.

A fine art photographer, Brigitte's subjects—in addition to landscapes—are often nudes and flowers. The technique she uses for the images in this book involves first printing a black and white photograph in her dark room and then applying oil paints, allowing her to interpret each scene from and individual perspective.

She says, "Farm Neck is such a beautiful and popular course that it was difficult to find any time to photograph without worrying that I'd be in someone's view or in the path of a whizzing golf ball. Even in the dead of winter, hunched over my camera in the snow, I heard the 'thwack' of the ball and the muffled landing near my spot halfway down the fairway. Vineyard golfers are extraordinarily passionate about their sport!"

Brigitte is represented by galleries in California in Palo Alto, Santa Monica and Carmel, in Washington D.C., New York and across the globe. You can also see a sampling of her work on her website: www.brigittecarnochan.com.
